If you’re reading this, substance abuse and mental health disorders have interfered with your life through yourself or someone you love. Getting help is a major step in the road to recovery from substance abuse and mental health issues.

We help individuals of all ages, and their family members move to and through the process of recovery. We care.  We are non-judgmental and meet everyone where they are at and help them come to their own answers.

Millions of Americans suffer from drug and alcohol dependence. Even more suffer from mental health disorders.

You are not alone. We know that drug abuse and mental illness affect more than the person with the disease, it touches everyone they touch – from family; to friends; to coworkers.

No single factor determines whether or how a person will become addicted.  Substance use disorder can stem from a wide variety of things in your life that can include your genes, environment, trauma, mental health, and other factors associated with a maladaptive or bad response to situations in your life that led to continue abuse.

No one is protected from disease. Everyone who has a disease needs to get professional help, and that includes addiction or substance use disorders.

If you (or someone you know) wants or needs help, contact us today. Call 316-295-4800, email us at gethelp@thecaringcenterofWichita.com or fill out our contact form.

Wherever you are in your recovery journey is where we meet.

We take pride in building a patient-centered practice that helps our patients come to their own answers because we believe that “a person convinced of an opinion against their will is of the same opinion still”.  We believe that everyone has to come to their own answers. Our job is to facilitate that process.

By listening to your story, our therapists want to understand what happened to you – the positive and the negative — not what’s wrong with you. We’ll guide you on how to react in situations with a healthy, mental attitude. We’ll help you in gaining a greater understanding on how to face life’s daily challenges.

It is challenging — but well worth the investment in yourself.

The Founder’s Story

Some of us have been where you are at now. I went through all the stages of addiction without knowing it.  I ended up wasting 10 years of my freedom and life in federal prison. Marijuana was my drug of choice — and I knew I would never use other drugs.

But marijuana normalized my perception of other drugs, and eventually I tried “speed or crank” as methamphetamine was known back then. This paved the road for my 10-year obsession with cocaine that I could never fully quit using until I went to prison.

I am proud to say that I have never used another drug since the last time I used marijuana in prison.  It was “a really bad trip” as I reflected back on how marijuana derailed my life and led to all of the problems I had in life. It was “dysphoric” as opposed to “euphoric” as I became overwhelmed with guilt and shame recalling how I started using marijuana at age 14, and no matter what – getting busted 3 times and more – I could not quit using marijuana.

I later understood this was because marijuana and other drugs give us a sense of well-being and alleviates bad feelings. But when used too often and too much, they also change the brain until it becomes normal with the substance present. It also disrupts critical brain structures that control judgment, decision-making, and behavior.

I am hopeful that everyone we work with doesn’t have to go through what I went through in order to come to terms with living life without farming it out to coping mechanisms like marijuana that more often than not leads to other drugs. Believe it or not, I have no desire to have or use marijuana again as I love my life the way it is now.

My point is that you don’t have to go to prison or have something bad happened to change her life. You can make the call to get into treatment that can help you counteract addictions powerful disruptive impact on your brain and behavior.

Let us help you

We help a variety of patients from all walks of life who depend on drugs and alcohol or suffer from anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, and other issues. Often, mental health disorders like anger management and low self-esteem accompany drug dependence.

We help families understand the science behind the addiction to better understand the disease so they can be more like a “coach” or “cheerleader” rather than an “enabler.”

Addiction is a physiologically and chemically induced brain disease. It’s no different than the sugar addiction of diabetes. You’d get medical help if you had diabetes. Get help for your dependence on drugs and alcohol. A disease is a disease and drug abuse is no different.
