And My Point is…

Graphic 2 people consulting

As we have said before, some of us have been where you are at now.

I personally went through all the stages of addiction without knowing it.  I ended up wasting 10-years of my freedom in federal prison — and even more years of my life depending on drugs. My point is…get help now.

Marijuana was my drug of choice, and I thought I would never use other drugs.

But marijuana normalized my belief of other drugs, and eventually I tried “speed or crank” as methamphetamine was known back then. This paved the road for my 10-year obsession with cocaine that I could never fully quit using until I went to prison. Believe me, there are better ways to quit.

I am proud to say that I have never used another drug since the last time I used marijuana in prison.  It was “a really bad trip” as I got high and reflected back on how marijuana derailed my path and led to all of the problems I had in life. It was a “dysphoric” (as opposed to “euphoric”) experience. I became overwhelmed with guilt and shame recalling how I started using marijuana at age 14, and no matter what – getting busted 3 times and more – I could not quit using marijuana.

Later I understood this was because marijuana and other drugs give us a sense of well-being and alleviates bad feelings.

But when used too often and too much, they also change the brain until it becomes normal with the substance present. This is because drugs disrupt critical brain structures that control judgment, decision-making, and behavior.

I am hopeful that everyone we work with doesn’t have to go through what I went through in order to come to terms with living life without drugs. No longer farming my life out to coping mechanisms like marijuana that more often than not leads to other drugs. Believe it or not, I have no desire to have or use marijuana again as I love my life the way it is now.

My point is that you don’t have to go to prison or have something bad happen to change your life. Get help now.

The old axiom that people “have to reach their bottom” doesn’t have to be true.

You can make the call to get into treatment that can help you counteract addiction’s powerful disruptive impact on your brain and behavior.

Let us know how we can help you carry out your goal to live a life free of drugs. Your future can be a great place to live. Mine is.

I wake up every day with an “Attitude of Gratitude” that I was able to escape the lifestyle and the drugs that had me trapped in it.

Help is what you need.

I consistently offer thanks up to all the people who guided me on my road to recovery. I now understand that I overcame my chemically induced brain disease because of their help.
