Are you a Clinician with a Substance Abuse License and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor seeking supplemental income? Do you have 20 weekends you could commit to teaching people to not drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol?
Have you been helping your clients to better understand the science of addiction? Do you understand the importance of setting healthy boundaries and are able to teach that?
The Caring Center of Wichita is seeking a professional clinician/counselor to join our teaching team in our drunk driving intervention program for 2024. We have one instructor who teaches our Spanish speaking classes, one counselor who serves as a backup, and our Director, Peter Ninemire who also teaches.
Classes
Classes begin on Friday from 4:30 to 7:30pm then continue Saturday and Sunday 8am to 5pm with lunch breaks. These are contract positions that pay $600 per weekend which includes the 20 hours of class time. Classes run from January through December on various weekends and are held at a local hotel.
Training includes one, or two weekend commitments if needed, before teaching on your own as the instructor.
The complete syllabus is provided and includes PowerPoint presentation slides and outline. We begin with Check-in and Orientation on Friday, Drugs, Brain, and Behaviors on Saturday and end with Navigating Conflicts in Relationships on Sunday. Teaching techniques include lectures, small group activities, and guest speakers. As the instructor, you also serve as the liaison between guest speakers, the hotel, and participants. If appropriate, you will make follow-up referrals for some participants.
Purpose
Our purpose is to help participants from never operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol again. It is our hope that our efforts also improve their quality of life by helping participants on their road to recovery and/or setting healthy boundaries in their everyday lives.
