An Open Letter to our Patients

Graphic envelope with letter

Dear Patients,

Thank you for choosing the Caring Center of Wichita to help you on your road to recovery. We understand it took a lot of courage to look into getting help and the possibility of changing things in your life. You and I both know that

“Change requires a temporary surrender of security.”

The biggest obstacle for most of our patients is giving up the delusion of believing they can manage or control their drug and alcohol use on their own when there is little, if any evidence, to support that belief. We understand how this can happen — because as part of the disease process of addiction — drugs and alcohol disrupt your critical brain structures that control your judgment, decision making, and behavior.

As our patient, you will learn the science behind addiction. This knowledge has helped many of our patients let go of the shame and guilt that keeps them using and abusing drugs and alcohol. We will help you understand it is not what is wrong with you, but what happened to you.

If you are physically dependent on alcohol and other drugs and need added support, we offer medicated assisted treatment options. These options have helped many of our patients get to the other side of withdrawal and away from the fear that keeps them in their addiction. Mental health conditions that are often self-medicated with substances are also addressed in therapy with the availability of medication management.

A key to our treatment approach centers on teaching our patients how to monitor and change their thinking. Helping patients understand their addictive beliefs that lead to triggers and cravings to continue using is also key to our treatment approach.

Overall, we will help you counteract addiction’s powerful disruptive effects on your brain and behavior and regain control of your life.

We do this for our patients by

  • Being Nonjudgmental towards our patients
  • Meeting our patients where they are at
  •  Helping patients come to their own answers
  • Understanding that one size does not fit all when it comes to treatment

Congratulations! If you’re reading this, you have summoned the courage to get help before something bad (or worse) happens in your life.

The first step is to call us at The Caring Center of Wichita at 316-295-4800. We will schedule you with a therapist who will sit down and have a “consult” with you. Together you two will explore the “fit” and direction you want to go in your life.

Best of Luck!

Peter
